I think there’s a misunderstanding by some teachers on here that having a teaching degree magically makes you a “master teacher.”
@ModestTeacher I’ve seen this too! 24 year olds who have their master’s degree but little to no teaching experience self-proclaiming to be “master teachers.”
@ModestTeacher 😂😂 It’s so true. I call them “educrats”. IMHO, there’s very little connection between a piece of paper and how good you are in the classroom.
@ModestTeacher I teach 6th, 7th, 8th grades and algebra 1. I do not have a teaching degree or license. I DO have years of operations management experience using budgets and a bachelors in business/accounting and a masters accountancy. I’ve been teaching 5 years and still learn every day. 1/
@ModestTeacher I always tell my students that I learn something new everyday. I think I would get bored if I didn’t.
@ModestTeacher My Masters degree did little to make me a better teacher.
@ModestTeacher I don’t think there is truly such a thing as a master teacher. After 45 years in the hs classroom, some days I was really good and others - not so much. But I believe there is such a thing as having a teacher’s heart. Teaching is 90% personality and a lot of humility.
@ModestTeacher Not at all! I taught for 38 years in my own classroom. Retired, now subbing. I am a master of nothing now.
@ModestTeacher I've been teaching 13 years. I have an MA in National Security. (No teaching degree, just a certification).
