@clayberrii Genres all have different ethos of working with outside material. Sweeping generalizations here: Jazz musicians of any era will cover pretty much any song. Hip-hop producers WILL sample anything And rock musicians are given flexibility to write pastiches in any style

@baileybwoods It’s not the lack of cynicism necessarily. I think that the lyrics feel Brill Building-y still and I think that dates it. It doesn’t feel like someone challenging the conventions of mass-produced music to emote. It feels like they just happened to innovate and write pop songs
