Golden was slow back to the line because he SURELY thought his Head Coach would call a timeout. Now the Packers go into halftime with 2 timeouts, no Hail Mary attempt, no field goal attempt. Nothing. You get paid MILLIONS to make these decisions come on man. wtf.

This quote seems to be melting the internet so I think the key is talking through what this actually means. When constructing an offense as a coach, you should not be trying to CREATE midrange shots. Obviously though, sometimes the defense wins. And the best bailout can oftentimes be a midrange jumper. So if you’re a player (particularly shot creators who spend a lot of time on the ball), yes it’s valuable to have a midrange jumper. And yes, if you’re training players who are on-ball players, you should be helping them with that shot. It IS really important for those moments where offenses need bailed out. But midrange jumpers shouldn’t be the goal of what a coach is trying to create offensively.

UNC coach Michael Malone: "We do not want to be a mid-range shooting team. Worst shot in basketball... We want to live at rim, the free-throw line, and get up a lot of threes."

Beyond impressed with how connected North Carolina looked tonight under Michael Malone. Tar Heels over USC by 18 and two starters --- Matt Able and Terrence Brown --- combined for just five points. 25 and 10 for Jarin Stevenson. 15, 9, and 5 assists for Neo Avdalas.

Everyone remembers MJ’s shot... But the timeout before it - that's when Dean Smith won the game. Roy Williams called it the "greatest timeout in the history of sports." Here’s exactly what Dean Smith told his team. It's the 1982 national title game and UNC trailed Georgetown by 1. Dean Smith called timeout. As the players walked to the bench, Roy Williams saw fear in their eyes. For the first time all year, he thought: "Oh my gosh… we might lose." But Coach Smith didn’t flinch. He knelt down and calmly said: "This is exactly where we want to be." Then he laid out each scenario - confident, clear, composed: Look for the lob. If it’s not there, drive and kick. Miss? We’ll get the rebound. If they rebound, we foul and they won’t make the FTs. In less than 60 seconds, Smith had shifted the energy. • Fear turned to focus. • Panic turned to poise. • Doubt turned to belief. The players left the huddle locked in. Then Coach Smith turned to MJ and said: "Michael…if you get it, knock it in." You know the rest...Jordan got it, pulled up, and drained it. UNC took the lead. Then James Worthy sealed it with a steal, and UNC won the national title. MJ's legend began - but it wasn't just the shot. It was the belief before the shot. This is a masterclass in pressure leadership. Your team will mirror your body language, your tone, and your belief. 1: Your team feels your energy. 2: Confidence comes from clarity. 3: Great leaders steady the room. Dean Smith didn’t just draw up a play - he passed them poise. 📌The quotes from this post come from Roy Williams' interview on the Way of Champions podcast. A must-listen for all coaches, leaders, and athletes out there.

Instead of just telling teammates to work harder, show them how to work hard. Instead of just telling them to have a great attitude, display one. Before you can lead them with your words, you have to lead them with your actions. BE the kind of teammate you want. Lead by example!

This is how I always viewed coaching. Every season is different. Different players. Different strengths. Different challenges. My job wasn’t to force every team to look the same. My job was to get the absolute most out of the team and talent we had. For me, that came down to three things: 1. Build the culture. 2. Develop leaders. 3. Find the strategy that gives THIS team the best chance to win. You don’t coach the team you wish you had. You coach the team you have. Great coaching is figuring out what your team can become, and then helping them get there. x.com/Jakobrooks/sta…

They’ll be no more remarkable performance in college football today than the one put forth by Yale QB Dante Reno. One day after his father passed away, he played for Yale and threw four touchdown passes and for 298 yards. Yale beat Merrimack 41-24. Bravo.

About 10 years ago, I read The Carolina Way and there’s one passage I still think about to this day. A former UNC player described how Dean Smith would sometimes stop practice and make a big production out of praising one player for doing something exactly right. That always stuck with me. We as coaches are usually very comfortable doing that when something goes wrong. We stop practice. Correct it. Explain it. Make sure everyone sees it. Magnify the unacceptable. But when a player does exactly what we’ve been trying to teach? Sometimes they just get a “good job” and we move on. I wrote about why I think that’s a missed opportunity and why the answer isn’t necessarily more praise, but better use of it. Full article: lockdowndefense.substack.com/p/make-a-bigge…

More offensive line help; Veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who has played 14 NFL seasons, is signing a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers, per sources. This week, the Packers now have added veteran offensive linemen Zeitler, Laken Tomlinson and Mekhi Becton.
