@stevemagness That’s not to say that a well-trained athlete can’t still see PRs in their 30s through a deeper understanding of training, recovery, and the often ethereal quality of and enhanced mentality, but as far as actual peak physical fitness, your 20s MAYBE early 30s wins the day
@stevemagness That idea is definitely making the rounds. I tried pointing it out to this guy a few months ago. As someone who underachieved at the D1 level and likely left 8-12s on the table in my mile/1500 PR, my 36 year old self is bummed I never maximized the magic that is your early 20s.
@CoachDanGo In fact, it’s literally impossible! No one can “sprint for 250 meters all out” because we can hold peak speed for about 6 seconds at best. Semantics, I know, but a pet peeve of mine as a coach :)
@HankFrank That’s simply not true. Most are almost certainly past their prime in their late 30s and early 40s. Now, that doesn’t mean that if you haven’t been well trained for years up to that point that there isn’t a lot of gains to be made and PRs to be seen, but you’re past your peak.
@barstoolsports He’s VERY fast, but eons from Bolt’s record and a fair ways away from the current fastest person alive. The difference between 10.00 and 9.80 is significant.
@AlexBerenson@drjohnm Based on my listen
1)There are a near-infinite # of confounders. Even adjusting for the “big” ones doesn’t hold sway b/c we just can’t know what else is out there. Hence the power of randomization
2)Do we REALLY think a singular substance can be responsible for such a reduction?
@DavidDack You can only sprint for about 6 seconds…and most untrained people can’t sprint at all. Sprinting is as much a skill as it is anything. The neuromuscular coordination required to efficiently switch the hamstrings and quads on and off has to be trained.
@DudeWhoInvests I was 30. Maxed out a Roth every year starting at age 23. 95% of my contributions were to VFIAX. Around that time I started a 457 (public school teacher) and contributed moderately, approx $260/month. I will receive a pension (Lord willing) so am willing to be riskier in my Roth.
@WRRConditions Love the reports, especially as someone who’s watching from afar and trying to time up a trip! Thank you. Do you anticipate releasing reports on a weekly basis now that things are melting a little more quickly?
