My health insurance company has decided that I, an insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetic, only need to test my blood sugar 5 times a day, down from the 6 they previously “allowed” Note to reader: if I only knew my blood sugar at 5 points throughout the day, I’d be dead.
Additional note to reader: my health insurance premiums don’t decrease as a result. I have to pay the same for decreased coverage. In the US, I’m expected to risk my health and life to generate profits for health insurance companies and Phrma.
Update
@Kidfears99 The argument is the wrong shape imho. Shouldn’t be lobbying insurance companies to grow a brain . Should instead be lobbying for tax-funded unobstructed care for t1d totally outside the purview of insurance
@Kidfears99 There's inflation so your premium payments are literally worth less. You aren't paying the same.
@Kidfears99 Im so sorry 💔 My kid is T1D. Thats horrible.
@Kidfears99 Our country sucks and we all know it.
@Kidfears99 Sickening!! I don’t think ANYONE has a CLUE about T1 till they have it or someone close in the family has it. Education is the key for support. But Pharma wants their slice of the pie in everything!!! I wish you the best!!!
@Kidfears99 Not only in the US. In Australia they increase and the coverage diminishes.
@Kidfears99 Have you considered a sensor? I had this issue over and over with insurance. The sensor has so many advantages. For me, it's the alerting me during the night when I go low
