My health insurance company has decided that I, an insulin-dependent Type 1 diabetic, only need to test my blood sugar 5 times a day, down from the 6 they previously “allowed” Note to reader: if I only knew my blood sugar at 5 points throughout the day, I’d be dead.

Additional note to reader: my health insurance premiums don’t decrease as a result. I have to pay the same for decreased coverage. In the US, I’m expected to risk my health and life to generate profits for health insurance companies and Phrma.

@Kidfears99 There was a point in the early weeks/months of diagnosis for my son that he was having 14 injections a day. That’s just the injections… let alone the finger pricks required before, in between and after! And not accounting for a variety of monitor errors requiring MORE strips! 😵‍💫

@Kidfears99 Is it because you use a CGM? My Endo has warned me she has patients on Dex that their insurance no longer covers test strips because of the "no finger sticks" thing...my Endo submits my logs to my insurance so they know I need to test 8 to 12 times a day so they fill my strip RX

@Kidfears99 My health insurance demands a prior authorization for my CGM every 6 months which my doctor sends over and they ignore till I'm almost out of supplies basically begging someone from my docs office to call them and demand they send it to the mecial supplier. It's degrading.

@hellokitty1211 EXACTLY. At 5 strips a day, they’re essentially limiting diabetics to two meals max with no room for error.

Y’all. I just picked up my test strips from the pharmacy. Insurance limited me to TWO tests per day, not 5 like my Dr thought. I have to do a prior authorization to even get 5 per day.

@Kidfears99 how often do you test? I test every 2-3 hours which averages to about 5-6 times a day (no hate I’m just asking)

@nutmilks If I’m not using a CGM, minimum 10 times a day.
