Yesterday's tor settings in Iowa were a big contrast: In nw IA, 0-3 km LRs were quite steep under the cold low aloft E of the sfc low; LRs in se IA were less, but with more SRH. The se IA cell took 5 hrs to produce, while nw IA cells took only ~1 hour or so! #tornado, #iawx

The landspout tornado in central IA near Blairsburg on Sunday was classic cold-core near the Pac front-dryline / warm front intersection. East of the high plains, almost all tornadoes with sfc dew points only 40's F occur with c-c systems like this. #iawx, #newx, #tornado

For 1st ever Feb tornado in WI yesterday, sfc T's/Td's only mid 50's over upper 40's F combined w/700 mb cold air (- 6 C) for 0-3 km lps rates 7 to 8 C/km to enhance low-level stretching. Unusual day, not a true cold-core event (low & WF far away in n MN). #tornado #wiwx #ilwx

Cold-core tornado settings are rare in Georgia & Florida, but Sunday's mid-level low over se AL really produced (sc GA-EF2 & ne FL-EF0) near & east of the warm front/Pac front intersection. These can be a surprise if not watching carefully (Davies 2006 W&F). #tornado #gawx #flwx

Yesterday evening's "surprise" tornadoes in s-c MN occurred along a weak warm front in an area of overlapping low-level CAPE and SRH where tilting & stretching was likely maximized. Would be nice to have a product that highlights such settings. #mnwx
