High school students (>14) playing one sport is not early specialization.
Coaches consistently say things like 90% of the game is played away from the ball, then insist players need more 1v0 practice to improve. Some even contend only 1v0 practice causes skill development. How much of the 1v0 practice is focused on off-ball and defensive skills?

A lot of coaches talk about toughness. But few coaches, coach with toughness.
#8: Tough Coaches Are Intentional Leaders Being a tough is more about the choices we make and the example we set for our team. True toughness lies in intentionally responding to situations, rather than simply reacting.
#7: Work to Get Better Every Day Tough coaches focus on personal and team growth rather than just outcomes. They set controllable success criteria for themselves and their team before every practice and game. They are dedicated to continuous improvement as coaches and leaders.
#6: Take Responsibility for Your Mistakes Tough coaches take responsibility for their mistakes. Admitting when you've messed up sets a powerful example of personal responsibility. It also earns respect from the team.
#5 Focus on What’s In their Control Referees, parents, administrators, and even players are beyond our control. Tough coaches focus on what they can control, with a next-play mentality. They don't get caught up in past mistakes or others' poor choices.
#4 Intentional Body Language Research has shown that most of our communication is done through body language (55%), followed by tone (38%) and words (7%). Tough coaches use intentional body language to convey belief, presence, and emotional control to their players.
#3 Receive Criticism the Right Way A tough coach values feedback from assistant coaches and players, prioritizing what's right over who's right and setting an example of handling criticism effectively.
#1 Take Responsibility for Your Team Jocko Willink says it best, "there are no bad teams, only bad leaders." Instead of blaming players for their shortcomings, a tough coach accepts responsibility for the team's performance and culture both on and off the field.
#2 Give Criticism the Right Way It's crucial to remember that you are coaching a human being, not just an athlete. Being demanding and truthful is necessary, but it should always be done with respect. This approach is more likely to be effective and well-received.
What Makes a Coach Tough? As coaches, we want tough players. And we probably have a good idea of what toughness looks like for our players, but do we know what toughness looks like for us coaches? Here are 8 ways to be tough as a coach: ⬇️

There are plenty of people that believe their way of coaching is better than others. Results matter and so do situations. Every situation is different and you can’t coach exactly the same everywhere. Problems, big or small, will arise. Putting athletes first has to be priority #1
Folks won't admit it but many are paying to get internet recognition...which has zero translation to getting recruited...ranking website folks in cahoots with clubs..it is pretty dirty business really..

For a project I had to look up some stuff on Graettinger, Iowa, and since I was in the online neighborhood I read up on the man, the myth, the legend, @MSHSLjohn, aka the long-haired fireballer who dominated on the mound once his coaches told him to, you know, throw it fast.

A lot of coaches talk about toughness. But few coaches, coach with toughness.
#8: Tough Coaches Are Intentional Leaders Being a tough is more about the choices we make and the example we set for our team. True toughness lies in intentionally responding to situations, rather than simply reacting.
#7: Work to Get Better Every Day Tough coaches focus on personal and team growth rather than just outcomes. They set controllable success criteria for themselves and their team before every practice and game. They are dedicated to continuous improvement as coaches and leaders.
#6: Take Responsibility for Your Mistakes Tough coaches take responsibility for their mistakes. Admitting when you've messed up sets a powerful example of personal responsibility. It also earns respect from the team.
#5 Focus on What’s In their Control Referees, parents, administrators, and even players are beyond our control. Tough coaches focus on what they can control, with a next-play mentality. They don't get caught up in past mistakes or others' poor choices.
