I don't believe kids were meant to spend 8 hours a day sitting in a classroom learning about random things they'll never use in their lifetime.
@FitFounder Have you read matt ridley's evolution of everything? fascinating chapter about the education system there
@FitFounder We just started homeschooling. Im amazed at what we can get done in a fraction on the time!
@FitFounder They just need basic education that's it
@FitFounder This idea is gaining traction. Education is critical for kids, but the current system was designed over 100 years ago. We need to adapt to survive. I’m part of a group headed by @Christel_OCC that’s using AI to disrupt education. Keep your eyes on her! 👀
When I was in high school, they had a class where students built a house. Another where they learned about cars. Also a metal shop class. Later I was a high school teacher for 20 years. Taught consumer education. Lesson plans included how to do your own tax return, how to get a mortgage, how to use consumer reports, checking accounts, no-load vs load mutual funds, stock market investing, home buying tips, car insurance, health insurance, etc. For many years this class was required to graduate in Illinois. Of course they changed this rule. Now most of the classes recommended by counselors are the ones required to get in to college. And those are the classes where most of what you learn you will rarely or never use in real life.
