The utter contempt for pregnant women in the replies to this thread from some midwives/hcps is quite something! Women are 'playing the system', wanting iol is 'catching', they can't tolerate waiting, they don't understand. These are the same people who claim to 'with women' 🙄.

It’s basic mathematics and basics in care; but instead they allow the money and more importantly, people’s lives to keep going down the drain. During a complaint, the medical world likes to gaslight patients by denying and dismissing their symptoms or injury. They also like to stonewall patients refusing to answer questions by being as evasive as possible. It's not only an abuse of power, it's psychological abuse.

How would you know if they don’t have RFM? Did you have them attached to a CTG/Dawes Redman for days to determine if they’re lying? Women know their own body and baby better than any HCP or any other individual.

Completely agree. After losing Grace I tried to get support from the perinatal MH team as they were who I knew and was refused because I no longer had a baby. It took me a long time to ask for help again and it wasn’t offered by anyone, I had to seek it.
This is great - but should be a standard offer for all families affected by avoidable harm in maternity services - no matter which trust the harm occured in. We should be strieving for equity & a gold standard of support for all. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
Such an important point made here! If (and I do not for one second believe women are lying to get IOL) women are doing this it means they’re not being listened to about their concerns and would be using this as a last resort. How about we just listen to women?

@bmywns This annoys me to my core. There are plenty of studies that describe that presentation with reduced fetal movements is a considered decision see here - pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27671523/ I have yet to see a single qual study document that women want to fake symptoms to play the system.

@EmilyJBarley As a parent and someone who works in healthcare (not maternity) it worries me that a health professional would actually have this conversation in the public domain. I wonder what the NMC would make of that.
@EmilyJBarley @Katieabcgirl This sums it up perfectly. If you're assertive, you're "aggressive", if you're distressed, you're "over-dramatic", if you're quiet and calm, then there's probably nothing wrong, and if something bad happens it's your fault for not speaking up. We've heard all of these many times.
