How many handovers (including all ED doctors) do you have in your #ED? We currently only have a morning one. Considering starting one later in the day to include more, share progress, bitesize teaching… also keen not to interrupt productivity just as the dept is getting busy.

All well and good, but honestly I feel such shame and sadness when I walk past patient after patient on trolleys in corridors, it doesn’t feel right to “nod politely”. We should be acknowledging their existence by providing dignified care.

@LawrenceDunhill 1. It's really depressing that the focus is on 76%. This will inevitably focus effort on the 'quick wins' and discharged patients. Meanwhile there is deafening silence about the utterly miserable 12 hour (from time of arrival) stays.

Any other consultants quite enjoy the strikes? Fully aware not sustainable, I just quite enjoy quietly seeing my own patients in ED and the camaraderie of having lots of consultants from other teams around.

@DrJlo29 I’ve seen it a few times & discussed with the patient/family about having painful invasive tests which won’t add to the treatment plan. Almost all of them would rather avoid it, unless requested by a Cons/SpR for a specific reason.
@EBezant @MedRegoncall1 @DrJlo29 Exactly this. Decisions like NIV are usually based on clinical picture and significantly abnormal gas that matches the clinical picture. There aren’t many cases where the difference between PCO2 on ABG vs VBG will alter the decision.
@MedRegoncall1 @DrJlo29 1 - find one that works/use earlobe probe etc 2 - see 1 - sats will answer that question 3 - ABG CO2 value will be within 1 KPa of the VBG result and hence unlikely to change management significantly unless for NIV. 4 - yes fair enough, although probably too sick for room air.

@DrJlo29 Look at trust website for corporate catch phrase mission statement etc, meaningless guff but managers like it. You may well be profiled into one of 13 Mayer-brigs astrology types for managers but I would say that as a ♊️.
