"It would take little effort for each person in the NHS to cultivate a routine of looking directly at every patient we pass and at least nodding politely to acknowledge their existence, if not actually saying hello." #sayhellotopatients says @JohnLauner bmj.com/content/384/bm…
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner Do the people that come up with this stuff live in the real world
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner Smile and wave boys, just smile and wave.
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner Incredibly poorly thought out idea. My department will frequently have >150 patients in it. Impractical, and would get me asked far more questions etc that I would not be in a place to answer, as I'm almost invariably doing something clinically emergent for another patient.
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner How many of the 150 patients in the waiting room would you like each member of staff to directly make eye contact with as they walk through?
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner And you expect this to happen in the south of England ?
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner Leave it to a primary care educationalist to come up with a totally unrealistic proposal for hospital doctors.
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner Oh sod off. We arent there to be friends.
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner 😂 Come to our ED and do that. You'd have to book yourself in with a vertebral artery dissection on your first shift!
@bmj_latest @JohnLauner Considering the volume of people in the waiting rooms of the nhs hospitals, my neck would be very sore, voice sore and I'd be very late if I said hello and nodded to every patient.
