The market was due for a day like today. It would take 4 more days like this (point value), to erase all the gains since March 31. Its not even a #Fibonacci Retracement yet.
Today’s price action made me look up the anniversary of the 2010 #FlashCrash. May 6, 2010. That was 16 years ago last month. The range looks so small compared to today in the Nasdaq 100. A 200 point sell off then was more than 10%. Today with the Nasdaq down over 1200 points, it isn't even 5%. It is easy to forget how quickly market structure can change when liquidity disappears, leverage is high, and everyone is leaning in the same direction. Markets can look incredibly strong right up until the moment they are not. That does not mean today is 2010. It does not mean a crash is imminent. But after a major runup, especially with so much leverage, passive exposure, systematic flow, and short-term speculation in the system, I think it is worth asking the question: What happens if this time is not different? One of the biggest risks in strong markets is that confidence turns into assumption. Traders start assuming every dip will be bought, every shock will be absorbed, and every dislocation will quickly reverse. Most of the time, that may be true. Until liquidity gets tested. For systematic traders, this is why risk management matters as much as signal generation. It is why intraday exposure, position sizing, stop logic, portfolio diversification, and drawdown controls are not just theoretical details. They are the structure that keeps a strategy from being defined by one abnormal day. Markets do not need to repeat history exactly to rhyme with it. The lesson of the Flash Crash is not that we should always be bearish. No one is talking about NVDA with the Nasdaq 100 at all time highs. It is trading below its previous earnings release highs and generating a nice symmetrical topping pattern on the 60 minute chart. It would be unusual if the "generals' lead the market into a correction.
