I heard it phrased it as, your priorities are supposed to be 1. God 2. Family 3. Work 4. Church 5. Government While you are obligated to Provide, if you neglect your family in order to Provide then you are declaring that God will not Provide for you. Which doesn't mean don't do sprints. But long term prioritizing work over family is a declaration of Pride because you are saying that you know better how to Provide for your family than God. This is a hard thing for me to swallow because I am used to making things happen and outworking everyone and depending on myself. But do you actually believe that God is the Provider? If you do, how can you neglect your family by sacrificing your own sleep over the long term, which makes you less present for your kids when they are awake? This question bothers me. Which is why in the last month I have done far less work after my son is in bed than I used to. God gave us our children to love and to lead. If we want our kids to trust in God, we have to model that trust. And that means turning off your phone some times.

There's 3 problems here that I have faced: 1. Duration at work 2. Exhaustion from work 3. Overconnectedness to the internet These all lead to not being with my family in duration, not being with them in attention, and the events of the day making it harder to listen to God. You may be suffering similarly.

@realconnormill @FreightScoutai I go extreme barbell. When I'm on my game, my phone gets turned off Friday night. It stays off until Sunday morning. I can work as late as I want Friday night. I can work as early as I want Sunday morning. But Saturday is family day. (Wife turns hers off too.)

I was shopping at the base of the towers in August 2001 during a week-long seminar at the Foundation for Economic Education. A big deal for a 17 year old to be walking around the city sans parents. Your picture Robert does a good job of showing just how big they were, and how small the surrounding skyline was. While the Columbia Tower in Seattle is only 14 floors shorter than WTC1 and WTC2, it is surrounded by other buildings that are just a bit shorter than it. But the WTCs were monolithic, like upright WWII battleships, monuments to the America that ruled the world. The Berlin Wall fell in 1989, only 12 years before. The USSR became Russia etc. in 1991, only 10 years before. The concept of a single cultural, economic, and military global hegemon was new. This was the America that invented and commercialized flight, computers, automobiles, almost everything that mattered. And those two towers were giant middle fingers to entropy. Yes, we are in charge, and yes, we will make the world better for everyone, and no, there is nothing you can do to stop us. 25 years later, though the world is multipolar again, our cultural middle finder against entropy still stands.
