@_BarringtonII Student loans are no more a scam than are home loans, car & truck loans, loans for TVs and appliances. All promise immediate satisfaction whether or not they ever provide it. Nevertheless, one enters the agreement it must be paid back. Caveat Emptor is still the rule.
@drbegoshmayne @_BarringtonII True, but the terms were there up front. If one didn't understand them the onus is on them. If one failed to get a degree or got one in a field where they couldn't pay it back that is their risk not the taxpayer. Why does an 18 year old need a loan?
@drbegoshmayne @RobSmith_Munich @_BarringtonII I worked full-time as a waiter/bartender & still managed to have debt as well, but I also had friends who took loans & paid for class. Then spent the rest on alcohol, SprBrk trips, scooters, & didn’t work. Irresponsible to say the least, but it’s not uncommon.
