@ASaunders_PGH Alan no offense but you agree with just about everything the Pirates mgmt/coaches do so you agreeing with Alex is about the least surprising take I've read today.
@Mikey5Aces It's the kind of decision every team in baseball makes. Which is why people that know what they're talking about agree with it.
@ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces The number of Tommy John's surgeries has exploded since the analytic people took over and started babying pitchers. So maybe they don't actually know what they are doing and are only following the fad?
@yinzer_g @Mikey5Aces They're following the evidence.
@ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces Are they? The evidence shows Tommy John's surgeries have exploded since they started worrying about pitch counts.
@yinzer_g @Mikey5Aces Tommy John surgeries exploded when more and more pitchers starting throwing harder and with higher spin rates. Pitch counts and inning limits have been shown to be effective in reducing the number of Tommy John surgeries over and over again.
@ASaunders_PGH @yinzer_g @Mikey5Aces All these Tommy John surgeries are tied to kids playing too much baseball. Kids start playing travel ball at an early age. Kid pitch starts at 8 years old. There’s kids that play from February till November in the south. Almost every weekend.
@hail2snerd @ASaunders_PGH @Mikey5Aces Kids don't play multiple sports anymore either. That's a part of the problem too.
