I get the frustration w/ taking Jones out, but he’s going to blow past his career high in IP in ‘24. They’re going to need a couple five and dive outings to manage that workload. And two innings of rested Ortiz then Holderman/Bednar ain’t a bad way to map out those four innings.
More analysis: It is April 16th. Yinz need to chill
@AlexJStumpf The problem is we don’t know for sure if managing his workload will even matter. We don’t know if he’ll be healthy in three weeks. It’s arbitrary.
@AlexJStumpf I’m not sure you really do. Wouldn’t a 5 inning outing be better when we have a big lead? Our bullpen has been terrible lately and we pull our best pitcher at 59 pitches in a one run game. Fire Shelton or accept losing. The choice is simple.
@AlexJStumpf Last I checked, the goal is to win the game. 86 or so will get it done in the division. He can go one more, or to 90 pitches.
@AlexJStumpf I dont like Shelton !!! Its better to skip starts maybe, but to lose a game like that, no thanks.
@AlexJStumpf He was at 59 pitches! I could see if he was at 80-90, but 59? Give me a break
@AlexJStumpf At some point don’t you have to try to win games too?
@AlexJStumpf That’s fine if they were “high stress” innings - that’s one of the new “hot takes” in the development world over the last few years - but tonight, Jones’s innings were anything but
@AlexJStumpf I’m less mad about that and more frustrated by all the squandered scoring chances. Hanes is the worst hitting coach in the league. Should have been fired halfway through last season.
