AI is not removing jobs. It is removing average work. At every level. From the intern's first draft to the director's report that restates the obvious. The bar is moving up.
The real question is no longer "what should I learn?" It is: "what should I focus on that AI cannot easily replace, and what evidence do I have that I am actually getting better at it?" The second half is the part most people skip.
One line from a conversation with faculty stayed with me: The faculty's job is shifting from transferring knowledge to building discernment. Exactly the shift happening inside our enterprises too.
Three things I told them matter more than any specific tool: • Judgment. AI gives answers. It cannot decide what matters. • Real-world use. Most solutions don't fail in code. They fail in complexity. • Relearn. What you know today may not be enough tomorrow.
It is not a student question. Every senior professional I know is sitting with the same one. The students just ask it out loud because they have no incumbent advantage to cushion the impact.
