@razibkhan So I think how you have immigration pull people in, i.e. how much is “”chain migration”” can have effects, particularly if human capital is lower (130 iq ppl from almost anywhere will be fine …). I don’t think the US or Aus really have big issues here, apart from ~xenophobia

@razibkhan I shan’t opine on US immigration here, but I think particularly given heterogenous India is, you can get very different results depending on how spread out the immigration regionally from India. If you have 20,000 of the same jat in the same suburb, you’ll have clannishness

@yishan Orbital welding is already used pretty regularly - Most common for pre-spooled parts, as site welds are rarely amenable to it. However, it's no magic, for example that doesn't look likely to be purged at all, nor really aligned well. Doesn't look a great socket weld

@dwarkesh_sp This is true for a given model if it costs the same to inference (i.e. fixed cost increase). But given that model intelligence scales logarithmically with compute requirements, surely the math is to force people onto dumber models for easier tasks? See deepseek costs
