With the latest NCAA guidelines, athletic departments are increasing focus on tools to monitor social media and helping athletes facilitate NIL activity.

A few athletic departments are getting proactive in exploring the opportunities (and the mechanics) or proactively helping athletes manage/protect their intellectual property. The next two years are going to be rewarding for those that choose partners wisely, adapt and iterate.

Not surprisingly, the official @OaklandMBB instagram account grew followers by 2x over the past 10 days, and is up 644% for the year, with an excellent engagement rate of more than 13%.

Here is a look at the combined social reach, looking at each school's football and main account combined. The SEC has five of the top ten totals and eight universities have an aggregate social audience of +2 million for the two accounts.
The SEC has four football programs whose athletes have an aggregate of +2 million followers across social media. There are only six programs in the country that currently reach that level (Colorado and Ohio State are the other two).
SEC football players have an aggregate social media following that is 60% higher than any other conference. More data like this is available in the 2023 College Football Compensation report.

A good look at the legal proceedings bearing down on the NCAA and the current college athletics model. The House case is extremely important. But the NLRB proceedings and other lawsuits are also significant. People are starting to realize now is the time to act on a new model.
