Barely getting out the door after a week of intense caregiving for my aunt, a sick child, having to digest some bad news, and massive workload coming to the fore. But it’s happening, I’m going to get myself to the @sewsaorg WGS South to give a keynote titled CARE AT THE EDGE
I'm not saying there are *no* problems that manifest at higher rates for "smart" or "educated" clusters. But by and large, problems smart people have are not easier for normal folk. They're harder. *Life* is harder. And more confusing. And they don't often get why.
The idea that most people are embodied, or can easily and cleanly tap into their desires, or know how to trust their gut without being fooled is just demonstrably false to people who have spent years helping people, particularly low income populations, with their problems.
Which obviously she did! But also that was not the only factor in play, and it was clear in her confusion of why her childhood friends struggled so much more. Empathy can be harder if our models of the world have holes in them.
