Let's not just focus on whether #GPT4 will do more harm or good on the job market, but also on whether its coding skills will hasten the arrival of #superintelligence – for which AI safety researchers have so far failed to discover any safety guarantees: youtube.com/watch?v=3Om9ss…
@tegmark Max, don't tell me you think artificial intelligence will surpass its creator. Are you inferring this?
@tegmark Super intelligent AI is possible but not with general purpose computers (von Neumann or Neuromorphic). So the safety 'experts' never analyse it. Drives me crazy.
@tegmark I super respect you because of your amazing work, “our mathematical universe” in particular. Yet finding your rants about AI baseless. What makes you think super intelligence will go hostile?
@tegmark Maximum truth-seeking is my best guess for AI safety
@tegmark It seems being alive also doesn’t come with a safety guarantee. Perhaps there is no assurance against fear if one has the power to generate it.
@tegmark If we don't have any safety guarantees about superintelligence, then going any further down the path towards superintelligence seems both foolish and evil. Maybe we should stop this AI frenzy for a few decades, catch our breath, and think this through a little more deeply.
@tegmark I don’t think superintelligence is a coding skills/speed kind of problem. At least not right now.
@tegmark Majority of the jobs it replaces were BS jobs to begin with from worthless college degrees that add little to no real value in the real world. The future is moving back to a world of doers & builders (welders, machinists, actual workers using their hands to create something)
@tegmark Hi Max, happy to see you are becoming more active and joining in more frequently. I read so much junk recently since everyone is jumping on to the topic. You however are an actual expert and thought leader on these topics- it’s your time to deeply engage and lead. 💪🏻🦾
