Sometimes these occur inadvertently simply because of the sun's position relative to the edge of the lens when using a camera. Why add it in post? Because they look cool. No other reason. Hollywood's obsession with anamorphic lenses gives that horizontally elongated flare that you see in movies these days as shown below. You'd have to walk around squinting all day to even get close to this kind of effect.

Actually Hunter, I have no problem taking my devices in for service and allowing someone to peruse the contents of the hard drive. I have not a single picture of a prostitute, illicit substance, or naked persons. I also don't have financial documents that raise questions about the legality of my business dealings. Here's the funny thing though. I would absolutely remember to pick the device up after the service is complete. If this was an attempt at blue-collar relatability, I’m afraid it missed the mark by several nautical miles. Go ahead and inspect my laptop all you like -- we are not the same. And while we’re at it, you don’t hold exclusive rights to victimhood either. Life doles out its particular brand of difficulty to everyone; the real differentiator is what we do with it. Some choose the coward’s way out. Others prefer the old-fashioned route: facing the consequences with eyes open and shoulders squared. Accountability, restitution, then -- maybe, some modest claim to moral improvement. Pain by itself doesn’t issue moral merit badges. A valiant swing, old sport. But a clean miss.
