Calling c the "speed of light" completely misses the point. Rather, c is the "spacetime exchange rate": how many units of space you can exchange for one unit of time.
In actuality, everything travels at the "speed of light", just not necessarily through space alone... (1/4)
The person you will be in 5 years depends on:
• the food you eat
• amount of exercise you do
• how much sleep per day
• books or articles you read
• how much more you write
• money you save and invest
• who you work with
• friends you spend time with
• new skills you develop
• asking for help when you’re stuck
• connections you make and keep
• promises you make and keep
• where and how far you travel
• doors you open for others
• knowing when to leave
• new habits you develop
• quitting the stuff that holds you back
Here’s how it works:
Collect all the info your loved ones will need after you’re gone.
Put it in a box. (Preferably green.)
With a roadmap to find everything.
This will save your family, lawyers, etc, from having to puzzle out a million loose ends.
Here’s what I put in mine:
I remember distinctly when and where I first decided to buy Bitcoin.
It was on a bus in Sicily. I was scrolling Twitter and read something to the effect of "don't over-analyze your investments, the future is ultimately unknowable."
Prior to that point, I had followed a Buffet style mindset of only buying things that you understand and can value. This one tweet woke me from my dogmatic slumbers—it's actually okay not to fully understand something. You just need to be directionally correct and not take too much risk.
So in July 2016 I started a small position in Bitcoin and Ethereum. I couldn't tell you the first thing about block sizes, hard forks, segwit etc. But I knew this could be something big and there was enough potential to warrant having some skin in the game.
Needless to say, that trip to Sicily has more than paid for itself.
'We divide the day into twelve equal hours, with the number twelve chosen for its great usefulness. It can be divided into halves, thirds, quarters, sixths and twelfths – a quality possessed by no lower number, and by no higher number until twenty-four.'
- Galen, 2nd century AD
If light has no mass, how is it affected by black holes?
The answer is: massive objects bend the "fabric" of space-time, so light travels along a different path than it would have if the massive object were not there.

The bad boy is typically the hot, sexy one who takes the girl on adventures. Saying he’s the one she would marry but not hookup with is saying he’s the “boring, safe one who’d never cheat not because he’s virtuous but because he’s ugly.” That’s why it’s an insult.
The equivalent is being a girl who’s told you’re not the type of woman of his dreams but you’d be a great mom because you’re “homely.”
A girl wants to be the object of his fantasies but also an incredible wife and mother. A good woman doesn’t care about the opinions of other men but absolutely wants her man to think of her as one to cherish.
This is why you have to marry the guy who has sex appeal but is also virtuous. A man you admire to lead and guide and would hookup with but he cares too much about your soul. This is the reason why “Twilight” was such a popular series.
Edward was a bad boy but he was able to tame his impulses in order to protect and adore Bella.
In order to change this, media needs to start portraying wives not as frumpy and naggy but as beautiful, loving, and having a glisten of sexiness.
Men need to stop being portrayed as fat loser Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin but as strong, capable, sexy men.
Spy X Family is one of the few shows that pulls that off with the husband and wife but we can’t rely simply on anime. We need it in mainstream media.
I see both types of marriages in person. The “ball of chain,” “wine o’clock somewheres” but also I see the strong, attractive men who inspire their wives. And the beautiful, benevolent women who adore them back. Those are who I choose to surround myself with. They do exist. But more need to see it because once they see it’s possible, it’s achievable.
My #1 regret in life:
I wish I had taken myself and dating more seriously in my 20s.
8 pieces of Brutally Honest relationship advice that I’d give to my younger self (so you can avoid my mistakes):
Most developed countries have terrible demographics, putting enormous pressure on pension and healthcare spending. Then add low GDP growth, higher interest rates, growing immigration backlash, high existing debt/GDP, and voter opposition to tax increases.
The social safety net was based on a growing working age population. That's over. This is the fundamental economic problem of coming decades and it has no politically viable solution.
Things that cannot last forever won't. The only way to get the necessary voter and political will for fundamental change would be an extreme crisis. The reforms at that point would fundamentally change the social contract, and hence living standards.
The only hope I see is if technological advancements can significantly increase productivity growth. Society has essentially made a huge bet that tech will bail out the political system. It better.
One of the strangest things about modernity is how obsessed we are with what's happening now. The Internet is a portal to the greatest books and writers of all-time, but we burn our attention on superficial news stories and the drama of the day instead. Junk food for the mind.
What happens in the days after you die?
It will be horrible for your loved ones.
I just learned about something you can do to make that easier for them:
The Green Box Exercise.
