Back to a good scattering of tropical showers and a few thunderstorms for Acadiana's Saturday...the day won't be a washout, but do expect some on and off activity throughout the day, tapering in the evening. A few heavy downpours will be possible with a few isolated spots catching a couple of inches...most of us will probably see less than an inch, and 30% of us may not see a drop...that's how 70% works! Rain chances ease and we saunter into a sultry summer pattern into next week with highs finally pushing near the normal of 90° while overnight lows stay in the soupy mid-upper 70s. Heat indices will be in the 100° range. Rain chances could increase again by next weekend as we'll be watching tropical moisture building in the Gulf, and watching for some sort of potential tropical disturbance...more on that in the days to come. A weak tropical wave off of the Louisiana Coast will move into Acadiana Saturday bringing splash and dash tropical showers and thunderstorms across the area. Chance of getting wet is set at 70% Saturday...the day won't be a washout, but multiple periods of some shower activity will be likely for most. It should calm down for tomorrow evening and perhaps we get a more pituresque tropical sunset! Rain chances Sunday at 40%...could go higher or lower depending where the residual tropical wave moisture remains. Rain chances ease into next week allowing for our first taste of summer heat and high humidity for the bulk of the week. We could see higher rain chances return around next weekend as deeper tropical moisture will be lurking in the Gulf. See my previous post for the tropical update. #lawx

Friday Atlantic Tropical Update: No worries for now! While the National Hurricane Center is not expecting tropical cyclone formation during the next 7 days, we will still keep our eye on potential systems that may develop during the latter part of the 7 day outlook and beyond. Today's models still are indicating something may be brewing in the Southern Gulf a week from today but how things may develop remain unclear. The Euro is actually bringing the disturbance in the Eastern Pacific, south of San Salvador, across Central America/Mexico with it re-emerging in the Southern Gulf/Bay of Campeche region by next weekend. Meanwhile, the less than stellar GFS is catching on to an upper low that's moving toward the Western Caribbean and eventually produces a surface low closer toward the Eastern Gulf, but is also recognizing some lower pressures near the Southern Gulf at the same time. Bottom line for most Gulf residents that deeper tropical moisture and perhaps a weak tropical system (we're talking perhaps a depression at this point) may be sitting somewhere in or near the Gulf during the 7-10 period which remains rather speculative at this time. Either way, increasing moisture values in the Gulf will likely bring higher rain chances anywhere from Texas to Florida beyond a week's time...so plenty of time to watch. Any potential system that comes from the broad low pressure circulation around Central America, known as the Central American Gyre (CAG), is extremely complex, and forecasting smaller swirls around a larger one, and add the upper low traversing westward through the Caribbean makes it impossible for any specifics at this point. What we do know: The Gulf will probably become more active with regard to tropical showers and storms, with some of that moisture potentially impacting Louisiana next weekend and/or into early the following week...whether there's something organized or not remains to be seen. It should be noted these are 12z model runs...the earlier 00Z Euro from last night had something a little more formidable system in the Gulf, similar to what I posted yesterday...so more changes will be likely to come in the days ahead. The last graphic here is the latest European Ensemble models that produce multiple outputs from many different tweaks to each model run...thus, the numerous potential lows it shows us in this graphic. I'll also note that most of the solutions from the ensembles do show lows in the depression to tropical storm range, and a couple a little stronger....time will tell. #tropics #lawx

More sunshine and fewer showers and storms for Acadiana tomorrow, but chance of getting wet still in the 40% range during the afternoon. Rain chances perk up with a tropical trough/wave that moves in from the Gulf Saturday...not expecting anything too strong/severe or too heavy, as activity will be scattered/on & off in nature, but maybe we spy on a funnel cloud or two! Rain chances ease and summer heat and humidity finally on display next week...a little late climatologically speaking! And of course we'll be watching the Gulf a little more closer next week as a tropical wave and disturbance may enter the Southern Gulf later in the week...see my previous posts for details. #lawx
