Every parent, hell, every GenZer needs to read this as soon as possible. At risk of sounding pretentious, this book is both important and timely. Human beings have always grown to maturity through “play-based childhoods.“ We’ve now switched over to “iPhone-Tik-Tok-based childhoods.” For the worse. It’s wrecking havoc with the mental health and social development of young folks. But don’t believe me - Believe Haidt’s exhaustive data. Also? There’s a lot of hope in here. As well as a Clear call to action. @JonHaidt @ThisIsSoulBoom
@rainnwilson when we were children,We would tie bed sheets around our necks and pretend We were Superman & run around the room pretending to fly. Most children sadly don't use their imagination as much anymore.
@rainnwilson Yup, my kids will not be getting smart phones until they have a job and can pay for it
@rainnwilson Just ordered it today should arrive tomorrow
@rainnwilson Homeschool your children to help with this. It allows them to be creative thinkers. It also gives them time to play as opposed to school where they are required to obey.
@rainnwilson Thoughts on Bad Therapy? @AbigailShrier
Well that’s bollocks. Up until the end of the 19th century, 95% of humans beings did not get to have ‘play based childhoods’. Their childhoods were spent working: in mines, up chimneys, on the street, in service and God knows where else. Childhood for the masses only became non-working around 130 years ago in the West, whist the idea of what actually constitutes childhood was still be stretched 50 yerss ago. Elsewhere, it is often still non-existent. I agree there is an issue with too much screen time, but let’s not kid ourselves on the past.
@rainnwilson The phone has destroyed many, it's heartbreaking to see.
