We re-framed Rembrandt‘s A Woman taken in Adultery today, replacing a 19th century French 18th century style frame with a very fine, newly acquired Dutch 17th century ebony moulding; the light comes out of the painting in the black frame, it transforms the experience
@psframes The original frame makes you feel like you are there watching them from nearby- the new one just seems like it was picked to blend in with the colors- zero imagination.
@psframes The original frame looks better, beautiful painting though
@psframes @MarksLarks If you’ve no need of the old one, I’m happy to take it off your hands. Thanks!
@psframes The original was better to be honest.
@psframes @mypillowgorl The ebony frame makes it appear that you reframed it in order to ‘match the sofa’.
@psframes So much better… light needs its space
@psframes I prefer the gold frame. (Either that or the photography and lighting is bad on the second shot.) Plus the black frame looks like it came out of a discount shop.
@psframes I like the gold frame. The black frame swallows the painting. The gold one directs my eye to the "action" of the painting.
@psframes The ebony frame allows the theatricality of the scene to absolutely shine! The gold frame detracts from the scene, but ppl are prob accustomed to fancy paintings having fancy frames. I find the new frame is the perfect foil for Rembrandt's stunning chiaroscuro. Hurrah!
