I just feel like most people are not really choosing their lifestyle. It feels like they simply accept "I have to do this" or "I have no other option" or "this is just the way it is". People consume the slop and aren't necessarily happy, but they refuse to blame the slop...

The average person cannot pattern-notice. They think they can (like a Fibonacci series, or pips on a domino), but those were mostly told to them. Show someone a cultural pattern and most don't see, but they experience the dissonance of not knowing why/how(/that) things changed.

Outrage over kids in restaurants is amusing in a dark way because everywhere you go, kids are zombified looking at a tablet. We saw a child in a slide at a park with one. Millennial tablet moms are descendants of older people annoyed by children. Lots of people hate their family.

People often in the first category don't see the second category as rational. Imagine someone worried about going out on a boat. One person is scared because they are unfamiliar, and anything could go wrong. Another is scared because they have seen sharks in the water recently.

There's this thing ppl are unaware/unconscious of where there are (at least) 2 types of anxiety. One is fear of unknown almost per se, the other is anxiety over the expected outcomes you can't control. They're different, but often lumped together, making analysis difficult.
