@KaneHolleyArt I don't believe in motivation. I only believe in discipline. Forcing yourself to do 30 minutes, no matter how unproductive it is. Then working up towards 1 hour stints. Motivation is a terrible thing to wait on. Too fickle.

it fucking sucks but commissions are all about your price, skill, availability, and reliability. if anyone walks away from your services then you need to reflect on why that is and improve on your shortcomings
Just throwing this out there: getting a “normal” job while looking for game dev work is 100% okay. You’re not giving up on your dream. You just need to be able to pay your bills.
Something I'd love to see on people's hard surface portfolio models is a stat that shows how many times they had to hit the Bake button when making their normal/ao maps. If its anything more than a single digit number, then that's an area to improve

a question for all creatives: imagine there was no social media or place to build an audience or any place to post your work publicly. if absolutely no one in the world could see your work except for you, would this affect your desire / motivations to keep creating?

@crystalxduan If physical motion is the issue: Your brain some cells for motion. So start by moving your pinky (the least possible movement will awaken that part of your brain), then your hand, then your arm, and so on.

@seconds_0 The sheer fun of being creative, the same sort as fixing a broken item, DIY, making a train track with your kids, solving a crossword, the palette can be anything you choose, it can be expressive or communal if you want. Just joining in with the dance of things, earth jazz.

@seconds_0 The obsession to create something is undeniably the most human experience you can have - you work with your mind+body+ tools that have been invented by humans (paints, words, instruments). It restricts you. You're forced to think creatively. It ends up feeling like magic.
@seconds_0 You know how it feels when you haven't seen the sun in a week? If I don't make art at least every other day, it feels like that.
@samtomco @seconds_0 As someone who has this happen with something unrelated to art, I think this is just a part of the human condition and art is your focal point
@seconds_0 If I don’t write, I become miserable. The effect is slow to set on at first, but the longer I go, the more it feels as if *everything* in my life is a waste of time, no matter how meaningful. It is ALL keeping me from writing, and I begin to resent the world.
@seconds_0 Life feels dull and pointless much of the time. When you're truly locked into creative mode it feels like everything is unbelievably joyful, alive, and interesting. It feels like you are doing what you are made to do. It makes you want to chase that high your whole life.
