Stress test your ideas. If you don’t, the market will do it for you.
I’m all for making money. After all, I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 35 years. But there are other Ms out there. Meaning. Mentorship. Making a difference. Economics ≠ everything.
Smart entrepreneurs: • Plan • Lead • Chart • Track • Adapt • Learn • Listen • Adjust • Iterate • Monitor • Manage • Measure What did I miss?
The market matters. You can have the business of the century in your imagination. But if there’s no proof of a market demand? You’re better off not launching.
Chart your course. Simple advice, but one that few people take. Knowing where you want to get to makes it a heck of a lot easier to get there.
I started my first company at 24. I went to Harvard at 58. Education comes in many forms.
Being an entrepreneur is in my DNA. The path of least resistance? Not an option. Giving up? Not an option. Settling for ordinary? Not an option. This mindset is hard wired. Do you have the gene?
Mistakes can give you nightmares. Or the means to grow. Your call. I’ve been an entrepreneur for over 35 years. Trust me when I say that mistakes are lessons in disguise. Be humble. Listen. And learn.
As a leader, I adapt. There’s not a one-size-fits-all approach to: • Life • Business • Relationships So why should there be a one-size-fits-all approach to leadership?
Investors aren’t just interested in your stats. They’re interested in your story.
No one likes to use the ‘M’ word. Meritocracy. Seems harsh, right? Nope. ‘Merit’ is you stacking skills and working your ass off. If that doesn’t deserve recognition, what does?
Leadership is making decisions. Before you do so: • Listen. • Really listen. • No, really listen. Now act. (Knee-jerk reactions don’t end well).
Sexy businesses make the cover of magazines. But boring businesses make money. You don’t need to be the next Elon. You just need to find a problem worth fixing. (And fix it).
I could have filed for bankruptcy. Back in 2008, when the edge of the cliff showed itself. It was a real option. Tempting. But I said no. Never regretted it. Why? Rebuilding from nothing gave me a PHD in resilience.
By not making a decision, you’re making the decision: • To stay still. • To do nothing. • To always wonder. Are you sure that’s the decision you want to make?
If you’re investing in a business, look for: • Learning • Leadership • Long-term vision These Ls determine future Ws.
If you can learn from your mistakes… You can earn from your mistakes.
Growing as an entrepreneur isn't about scaling a company, it's scaling a mindset: • Scale patience. • Scale problem-solving. • Scale risk-taking. • Scale adaptability. • Scale learning.
Entrepreneur growth hack: 1) Learn from your industry's leaders. 2) Build high value relationships. 3) Focus on serving, not selling. Remember that entrepreneurship is not a job - it's an evolution of your skills.
Being an entrepreneur doesn't mean you stop learning. Set aside time for self-education each week. Listen to podcasts while commuting. Read books before bed. Spend one lunch break per week watching TED talks. Education doesn't stop because you're on your own path.
