At the core of a lot of the anti-AI stuff is an argument no one really wants to say out loud: ‘it should be harder to do things’. tbh I don’t think this argument is entirely without merit, I think friction is good in some processes. but let’s be upfront about what we’re saying.
I think a lot of people who oppose AI, especially artsy types, consider themselves very egalitarian minded people, so it’s difficult to confront the fact that you’re basically saying “access to doing this should be more limited and more people should be excluded from doing it”
@opinonhaver This is not the argument at the core of anti-AI sentiment. That argument is very different, far subtler, and would drive a normal man mad to know it. I will tell you if you must, but beware you will take intense psychic damage upon learning it.
@opinonhaver No, my dude. It's "doing things involves a process and AI isn't part of that process because it removes a key human element," why is this so difficult?
@opinonhaver You say that like it's a bad thing people want it to be harder to generate deep fake images or videos. Not only that, AI "artists" just want to make pretty images with a couple keyboard presses instead of taking the time to learn a skill
@opinonhaver My goodness, a man made entirely out of straw!
@opinonhaver mid artists are always scared of new tools if an artist is anti ai I guarantee their work is mid
@opinonhaver no conehead the argument is it is meant to make a profit for tech ceos and shareholders by replacing workers with an algorithm that wouldn't exist without the existence of those workers' work. I don't enjoy having my life's work used to make me homeless
@opinonhaver I think for a lot us who've worked for large corporations, it's the certainty of terrible AI applications that make everything worse for at least a decade.
@opinonhaver That is certainly part of it (and not unsympathetic to me) but there is a spiritual piece that goes along with creative pursuits being automated that you wouldn’t have with something like self-checkout lanes
