MY AGENT USED TO REPEAT ITSELF AND HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING
The fix wasn't a better prompt. It was a file.
Every piece I publish gets logged with four things:
→ its thesis
→ how it opened
→ what it used as proof
→ what it asked the reader to do
Before writing anything new, the agent reads that table. Two matches out of four and the idea is dead on arrival.
Memory isn't something you prompt a model into. It's something you write down and make it read.
AN AGENT DOESN'T INVENT NUMBERS BECAUSE THE MODEL IS WEAK
It invents them because nothing in the system is allowed to say "we don't have this".
Most rules try to fix that with tone. Be careful. Don't speculate. Be accurate.
That's a request, not a mechanism.
So I changed what an answer is allowed to contain:
→ every number has to point at a file
→ no file, no number
→ the gap gets written as missing, not as zero
→ missing is a valid output, not a failure
The first week was uncomfortable. Half my documents came back full of the word missing.
Those gaps were already there. Something had just been filling them in for me.
