Just had a call from GP’s surgery to book an appointment for H’s annual health check. It is to be done over the phone. I refused and said I want it in person as H can’t engage over the phone and how do you carry out weight checks and BP over the phone? 1/
I’m then told that this is how they’re being done. I gently reminded her that we had it in person last year. Another gentle reminder that there should be reasonable adjustments made for him. A final gentle reminder that this is part of the Equality Act. 2/
She said she would get back to me. Considering I’ve spent the best part of a year researching annual health checks, this aligns completely with the findings of my research into the barriers in accessing AHC’s. Not good. 3/ #LearningDisabilities #AnnualHealthChecks
@mumof3amigos It really has to be face to face. (B was meant to have his tomorrow but I will have to postpone as he's poorly).
@mumof3amigos @soulcherry64 I insisted on sons being done face to face and tests highlighted high blood pressure and low potassium levels indicative of a rare kidney disease. I am glad I persisted and this is exactly why they should be in person. They do get £140 for them!
@mumof3amigos Excellent questions/concerns to raise with @NHSEngland and @CareQualityComm
@mumof3amigos They just want to tick the box so they can get paid for it. Terrible that services are so stretched they have to compromise hope they see sense.
@mumof3amigos My son has always had his LD health review in person.i thought it had to be done
