Just had a call from GP’s surgery to book an appointment for H’s annual health check. It is to be done over the phone. I refused and said I want it in person as H can’t engage over the phone and how do you carry out weight checks and BP over the phone? 1/
I’m then told that this is how they’re being done. I gently reminded her that we had it in person last year. Another gentle reminder that there should be reasonable adjustments made for him. A final gentle reminder that this is part of the Equality Act. 2/
@mumof3amigos Not good. I hope that H gets the annual health check done in person, no harm in them coming to the house. I'm a student LD nurse and looking into Annual Health Checks. They're vital, and GP's need to accommodate, and barriers need to be addressed. It shouldn't just be a tick box
@mumof3amigos My adult son is autistic and can’t cope with phone consultations which is what adult mental health were offering. He also wants me to be present. So, we’re waiting for an in person one which will determine what they can do for him. I suspect we will be fobbed off.
@mumof3amigos When I quizzed our surgery, I was told annual health checks were via "invitation only" Neither of my girls have ever been 'invited' for a health check and one has an extremely rare condition. Thank you for the useful information, I will now politely ask again!!
@mumof3amigos They are coming to house to do ours. Insist on being seen in person
