I had the pleasure to interview CM Balducci yesterday: seattletransitblog.com/2024/04/25/bal… #2line #soundtransit @KccClaudia
Let's build light rail to Ballard instead of West Seattle. Expanding bus services in West Seattle will provide better transit and save trees, herons, salmon and beavers threatened by light rail construction instead of generating 614,000 tons of carbon.

Why build a station a station high up if we can have one at ground level or in a shallow tunnel? Let's consider an immersed tunnel across the Columbia River.

Ridership would grow if Sound Transit would focus ST3 on Ballard/SLU Link, increase bus services on other corridors, and consider a central tunnel in the future seattletransitblog.com/2024/01/10/foc…
@billschrier It's enormous enough, especially if the Coast Guard requires 178' clearance, that I'd like to at least see some cost and size estimates (by independent engineers) for the immersed tunnel @BOrtblad has suggested.
Is rail the best way to build out transit or are there better ways to build modern transit systems? seattletransitblog.com/2023/12/03/evo…
A modern transit network may need rail, bus and gondolas. The Dominican Republic understands this dominicantoday-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/dominicant…

I would love to ride a driverless train from Westlake to Ballard. Smaller stations could be built faster and cheaper with less disruption on Westlake Ave.

With a single tunnel through downtown Seattle could have such frequency, too, so why would we build a 2nd one?

A single downtown tunnel is completely possible and provides the best outcomes ift.tt/ladx0um
A win-win for the CID dilemma: Stick with current tunnel ift.tt/oraYiQf
I would like to see such shallow and small station on NW 56th St in Ballard, right next to the Library, @CMDanStrauss seattletransitblog.com/2023/02/20/the…
Why do these guideways look so much cleaner/nicer than what @SoundTransit is building recently? The Lynnwood Link guideways with their concrete beams look like any other car bridge.

Portland's MAX lines slow to a crawl once they reach the city center, creating system-wide slowdowns. Adding downtown tunnels might be the only way to fix that in the long term. Watch the full report tonight on #TheStoryKGW at 6:30 p.m. (youtube.com/live/6_T6F4oQr…)
Even the disconnected 2 Line in Bellevue starts running 2.5 hours earlier on Sundays than the entire BART system! The fact that special early service is needed for a 7am event should be a pretty clear sign that it needs to start earlier every Sunday.
Get your transit-themed costumes ready for #BaytoBreakers. We will offer special early service from nine BART stations on Sunday, May 19, with limited stops to get race participants to Embarcadero by 7am. Full details: bart.gov/news/articles/…
Aurora Ave, of course.
Update on today's earlier outage in North Seattle: a vehicle vs. pole collision caused a power outage in the vicinity. Crews were able to safely restore power to those affected and will return tomorrow to complete more extensive repairs.
That’s a scene from Summer Parkways on September 12, 2015. The program was killed by Mayor Durkan, perhaps because it sparked too much joy.

@macsquirelera That's one cultural trait for which I will always remain Italian: I pay back my credit card balance in full weekly. I am using it as a glorified debit card. And I constantly refuse the monthly stalking by the bank to raise my credit limit.
Thinking about the fact that when Metro was getting ready to start construction on the downtown transit tunnel in the late 1980s, the big alternative that people opposed to that idea supported instead was...a downtown transit mall.

Shouldn’t have to risk getting a road piss shower waiting for the bus. Seattle needs to rebuild all of Rainier Ave with modern drainage, wider sidewalks & dedicated bus-only lanes.
@andr_w That's pretty much how these infrastructures are planned in way too many places.
One of the big discussions we should have (but we rarely have) when planning the construction of an higher order, fixed-guideway transit in how we plan to reorganize the bus service around it. It's a problem, because it's more complicated and charged of tradeoffs than it seems
What's the point of doing public outreach and presenting different options to the public if you are not discussing explicitly how, say, extending the green line or building a feeder tramway will affect the actual trips of users, what are the costs and the benefits of each option?

I'm back in Hong Kong. I see the PSGs slowly being rolled out across the East Rail Line. The MTR every night adds a few PSG units to prevent impact on daily services. This creates a temporary situation where a platform is only partly protected by PSGs.
You can accomplish so much if you focus on meeting the needs of *people* and supporting thriving communities for them.

@MikeLindblom @SoundTransit @brucedammeier Oh, and things will get worse. Most systems have increased ridership per service hour as they expand (network effect). This happened with UW and Northgate Link. But now ST will add lots of new track with relatively few riders (which means riders per service hour will go down).
If you don't understand how the bus network will be redesigned around a proposed rail or busway infrastructure project, you don't understand the infrastructure project. What matters is how the infrastructure affects the total network.
