@mer__edith is this possible? I thought FB had integrated Signal encryption in WhatsApp?
@mer__edith is this possible? I thought FB had integrated Signal encryption in WhatsApp?
@Peace_Bruv What'sApp uses the Signal Protocol to protect the contents of comms--what you say. But it doesn't protect things like your contact list, profile name, who's in a group chat, who's messaging whom, etc. Signal protects all of these. This is a very important differentiator.
@mer__edith @Peace_Bruv Is there a way to audit/verify the code that runs on Signal server(s)?
@mer__edith @statusquont @Peace_Bruv So it's better to on signal more often?
@mer__edith @Peace_Bruv Besides, I would never trust encryption promises from a company whose core business is #surveillancecapitalism , be it @Meta or @Google . Thank you Meredith and the entire @signalapp team for all the great work you do offering a safe alternative to those companies' products.
@mer__edith @Peace_Bruv Thanks for the context! Just read some of the details, fascinating. signal.org/blog/private-c…
@mer__edith @Peace_Bruv Thank you for Signal and confirming that it’s the “meta” data that’s used to track us. Here in the case of WhatsApp messaging, but also intrinsic to Google’s “Consent” workaround for web users who expressly opt for GDPR/US protections that should prevent tracking and intrusion.
@mer__edith @matthew_d_green @Peace_Bruv Worth also noting that WhatsApp doesn’t encrypt your chat backups by default, defeating most of what makes encryption so important.
@mer__edith @Peace_Bruv I use and highly recommend Signal to people but I don't think WhatsApp can be called a messenger that respects your privacy
@mer__edith @dinodaizovi @Peace_Bruv I get it, you're the CEO and you know a few things. But it is technically wrong to advertise Signal messenger as an anonymous communication network which is what you are doing with this tweet.
