It's not the vector embeddings that fail over 10M, it's the architecture that fails. Distributed vectors scale beyond millions with proper distributed indexes and HNSW. Key points to consider when architecting vectors - Distributed storage with sharding - ANN indexes (HNSW, IVF‑PQ, or hybrid) - Compression to reduce memory footprint - Async ingestion separate from query serving - Caching for hot vectors - Memory‑mapped or disk‑optimized search if RAM is limited
