What comes next? In 5 days, on December 10th, the u16s age verification bill comes into play. But, as we know, it's all Australians who will need to age verify. But what does the government have in store for us next. Starting Dec 27, Australia’s new Search Engine Code kicks in: Google,Yahoo, Duck Duck Go & Bing must use age assurance tech (facial estimation, etc.) on logged-in Aussie accounts. If you’re detected under 18 → strictest safe search auto-enabled to block porn/violence.Full rollout by June 2026. Non-logged-in and Incognito mode unaffected. Another layer of the government’s child safety push - right after the under-16 social media ban. This is part of broader Phase 2 online safety codes aimed at child protection. Critics argue it raises privacy concerns and could expand further. It's not a full "digital ID for every search" as some claims suggest - it's targeted at personalised/logged-in experiences, similar to YouTube. So you understand why the government is doing this, "Search engines are the ‘gateway to the internet’ for many Australians." This is the fastest way to censor all Australians. We are being forced to trade privacy for safety. And as we know, in situations like this, we will end up with neither.
