In 1993, Tomm Tennent was born in South East Australia with so much extra skin it could cover a five-year-old child. His parents, Geoff and Debbie, were shocked at first, but also moved by how wonderful it was to hold and cuddle him. Doctors had never seen a condition like his. We just interviewed a candidate who spent the entire session cheating in real time. He thought we couldn’t tell. So it started with him saying his camera wouldn't come on, some PC issue or whatever. This happens at times, so we just moved on. We asked our first question and he answered it perfectly. The response was very smooth and complete in a way that sounded more like reading than thinking. But we weren't sure yet, so we asked him something specific about a document he had submitted himself. And this was where we caught him. He first of all acted like he didnt get the question so as to stall. After few mins of us repeating the question, he answered by reading it back to us, word for word, straight off the page. That was when our suspicion became a fact. I smiled. My co-interviewer smiled too. We became more flexible with our questions and his responses made it clear that he wasn’t just reading from somewhere but also running our questions through a voice-to-voice AI and feeding himself the answers as we spoke. He has a strong GPA and a major award to his name, and there's probably real talent underneath all of it. But @MtScholarships will not accept anyone who cheats their way in. No matter the level of excellence they have attained.

I was earning less than 1million a month. A wife, a kid, two parents and at least 3 siblings that I was directly responsible for their education and supports. Throughout my time of working for people, I have never saved up to 5million naira in a year on my own, let alone having such an amount in my account. 3years down the line, if I start to tell you many things I have done for my family and myself, you will never believe it. The first year alone, what I got as a total income was well over 50million. Got myself a better car, and saved up for the next year. The second year was when I built a house for my parents and furnished it with all things necessary to live well. We are in the 3rd year and looking back, we can’t but thank God for how far we have come and still growing. All of these I doubt could have been possible if I had continued working for big firms in 5-10 more years because I couldn’t be earning more than salaries. For a small law firm that does not have any big client, funders or big names patronising us, the dream is big, the audacity is audacious and the fear of failure is never a concern. The numbers might be small now, but as long as we keep forging ahead, brick by brick, we will build a Rome. In a space of 3years, I have met people I would never have met if I continued working under these firms. I have been exposed to opportunities that I had never imagined. I have seen potentials that I could get to which I never saw in my almost a decade of working for people. For many people, it’s never even about special favours or location, it’s the ability to dream big, take big risks, explore opportunities and offer value, a skill-set that is lacking in many.

This woman filed for divorce, accusing her husband of cheating. However, when she could not provide convincing evidence to support her claims, she decided to reveal something else about him. She claimed her husband was a fraudster and said she could prove it. What started as a divorce case suddenly turned into a criminal allegation. According to the story, the husband had once discussed a fraudulent idea with his wife, explaining how he intended to carry it out and the amount of money involved. However, he later abandoned the plan because his conscience could not allow him to go through with it. Later, he secured a legitimate contract that brought him significant income and, according to his statement, gave his wife 25% of the money he received. But she allegedly believed he had carried out the fraudulent plan they once discussed and became unhappy with the amount she received. She then accused him of being a fraudster. After investigations, he was reportedly not found guilty of any crime. The wife later requested that the case be dismissed, but the husband returned to court, accusing her of defamation of character and making criminal allegations against him. She was reportedly ordered to pay ₦50 million. The painful lesson from this story is that trust is important, but wisdom is equally necessary. Private conversations shared in love can become dangerous weapons when relationships turn bitter. Not every secret is meant for everyone. Some things require caution, because the person closest to you today may become your strongest opponent tomorrow. Love can be beautiful, but broken relationships have also produced some of the fiercest battles in history.

Collected my NYSC certificate 7 May 2008 in Sokoto (after serving 3 month extension. POP was 14 Feb 2008) Ran to Offa next day. Spent two days to dira with parental prayers lol. Then proceeded to Lagos to continue my job search. Applied to almost every company I can think of (over 100 if I counted before, during after service). There was hardly top company in Nigeria I didn't send application email to. Sent CV to Oando general career email on 25 May 2008. Three days later, got email from them inviting me for job test for the position of Fixed Asset Accountant. They had seen ICAN first stage pass (& prize I won) on my CV and felt I should be able to do the job despite needing 3 years' experience. Scared, I emailed them to say I wasn't qualified. No response. I showed up still. Saw 5 other candidates on that day. Marked there and then. Our scores communicated. I scored 73%. Highest. Passed. Invited for interview. 3 of us on that day. Passed that one too. Invited for final chat with COO. Passed. Got offer. Everything happened in quick succession because they needed to fill that role. It wasn't even a general graduate trainee recruitment. It was for a specific role where the holder moved to another department and they needed to fill urgently. Resumed 16 June 2008 and began my oil & gas journey from there. PS: I will say there is an element of luck (like everything in life), because my CV (sent to the general recruitment email on their website) was so timely and what if I didn't start ICAN during my NYSC! The role was also not publicly advertised. They just needed to fill the role urgently.
