I am genuinely confused by this. Do Americans not drink milk outdoors?

@rhiannonlucyc They're very obsessed with food safety, and I assume milk that's outside has been out of the fridge for a while. It sort of makes sense because it gets hotter there, but they're very paranoid about all that.
@ladygreenkirtle @rhiannonlucyc I guess in a lot of places there it gets very hot for more of the year than we’re used to
@ms_peaceweaver @rhiannonlucyc Definitely true, but it gets colder as well! A cup of milk would probably last longer outside in New York in winter than it would in the fridge.
@ladygreenkirtle @ms_peaceweaver Huh! I knew they could be a bit weird about runny yolks (yet they eat raw egg in cookie dough?) but milk … unless it’s very hot it isn’t going to spoil in the time you’re in a park
@rhiannonlucyc @ladygreenkirtle Apparently the US guideline is not to have milk out of the fridge for more than two hours, so I guess a park trip might get you close to that point
@ms_peaceweaver @rhiannonlucyc I just don't think a rule based on time alone makes any sense, really. It depends what the weather's like, what kind of container it's in, even whether it's skimmed or full-fat.
@ladygreenkirtle @ms_peaceweaver @rhiannonlucyc Also off milk isn't bad for you, it's... cheese.
