Your body keeps two months of fat in storage and less than one day of carbohydrate, which tells you what it was expecting to run on. Your entire bloodstream holds about one teaspoon of sugar. Any more and an alarm goes off. Your liver and muscles hold perhaps 2,000 calories of carbohydrate. A day, if you sit still. A lean adult carries around 100,000 calories of fat. Six weeks and more, with no further instructions. You store vitamin B12 for three to five years. You store vitamin A for months, in the liver, like every other hunter. You store vitamin D in your own fat, to see you through a winter. You store almost no vitamin C. Scurvy takes about a month. Look at what gets a warehouse. Fat, and the nutrients that come in an animal. Those arrive in gluts. A kill, a feast, then nothing for a week. So the body built somewhere to keep them. Carbohydrate gets a shelf. If none turns up, the liver simply makes its own, and has done every night of your life. There are essential fats. There are essential proteins. The textbook requirement for carbohydrate is zero, and it says so. No engineer builds a 100,000 calorie tank for the reserve fuel and a one day tank for the main one. The plate they drew for you is two thirds the fuel you were never built to store.

You lost me at “officially” when there are still 10 weeks left in the year and films have a very long shelf life.

In 2010, when the Nobel Peace Prize went to the jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, Navi Pillay, then the UN’s top human rights official, stayed away from the ceremony in Oslo. Beijing was pressing governments and institutions to boycott it, and according to Foreign Policy, she gave in. Liu never walked free. He died of liver cancer in 2017 in a hospital in Shenyang, still under guard, after the regime refused to let him go abroad for treatment. Now the same committee is giving Pillay the same prize. I think it’s fair to expect that anyone with a shred of decency will do for her ceremony what she did for Liu’s: stay away.

As many of you know, I once viewed Mamdani as nice, authentic, charismatic, and intellectual. I dismissed the concerns others raised as little more than oversensitive conservatives chasing clicks. That changed when he released the sinister video calling for Netanyahu’s arrest and describing him as the architect of genocide. There was something dark and distinctly off about Mamdani in that video. Like many of you, it left me feeling disturbed. Mamdani smiles while quietly waging war on Jews and the upper class. He moves like quiet like a snake, which is why I wanted to share a quick summary of his history so you can see where I and millions of others are coming from when we say he’s dangerous. College (~2014) Co-founded a Students for Justice in Palestine chapter at Bowdoin and pushed the school to join the BDS movement against Israel (Israel boycott). 2017 Released a rap song praising the “Holy Land Five,” leaders of a charity convicted of funneling millions to Hamas. 2020 Posted a photo of himself flipping off a Christopher Columbus statue with the caption “Take it down.” May 2023 Introduced the “Not on our dime!” bill to stop New York nonprofits from supporting certain Israeli settlement activity. October 2023 Right after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack, he posted that Israel was on the “brink of a genocide” and joined pro-Palestinian rallies calling for an immediate ceasefire. Campaign 2025 Said “I don’t think that we should have billionaires” and centered his campaign on “tax the rich” policies targeting the top 1% and corporations. Campaign 2025 Repeatedly refused to condemn the slogan “globalize the intifada,” saying the mayor shouldn’t police language. March 2026 Reports showed his wife liked Instagram posts on or right after Oct. 7 that framed the Hamas attack as resistance and “breaking the walls of apartheid.” April–Summer 2026 Rolled out a pied-à-terre tax on luxury second homes, filmed the announcement outside a billionaire’s penthouse, and published a massive property list. After demonizing the wealthy, this is essentially a Kill List. 2026 Published the “100 Worst Landlords” list on his government website as part of his war on private property owners. Again, this is a Kill List. The top offenders later settled with the city over thousands of violations. July 2026 Called Benjamin Netanyahu a “war criminal” and “architect of a horrific genocide,” said he wasn’t welcome in New York, and urged the U.S. to enforce an ICC arrest warrant. September 11, 2026 A clip from the 25th anniversary 9/11 ceremony showed him smiling and interacting with AOC while victims’ names were being read. Not a single American would have been capable of smiling in that moment. Keep your eye out on this guy. He's not done.

In 1999 climbers found George Mallory's body high on Everest, 75 years after he vanished, and the clothes he died in were still on him. They were wool, silk and cotton. In 2006 somebody put on an exact copy and climbed the mountain in it. For decades the story had been that Mallory and Irvine were doomed by their kit. Tweed jackets and woolly jumpers at 28,000 feet. Brave amateurs, dressed for a grouse moor. The body told a different story. Mallory was wearing 8 thin layers. Silk next to the skin, then fine wool, then more silk, more wool, a flannel shirt, and a windproof cotton outer woven so tightly it turned the snow. Four British universities took fragments from the body and rebuilt the whole outfit, thread for thread. A mountaineer called Graham Hoyland wore it on Everest. He reported that it was warm. It was also lighter than the modern down suit his companions were wearing. The silk layers slid over the wool, so he could move his arms freely, which a man in a padded plastic suit cannot. The wool held its warmth when damp with sweat. He said he would have been comfortable going for the summit in it. The researchers concluded the clothing was fully up to the job. So the gear of 1924 was not the weak point. A sheep and a silkworm had solved the problem of the coldest place on earth, at less weight, before anyone had invented nylon. Then we spent a century replacing it with petroleum and told ourselves the men who came before were underdressed.

In 1994, Yasser Arafat received the Nobel Peace Prize for the Oslo Accords, in a ceremony where he posed alongside Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres as if the past of terrorism, kidnappings, and rhetoric calling for Israel’s destruction had been nothing more than a youthful mistake.

ABC NEWS GOT CAUGHT AND HIT THE DELETE BUTTON. On Wednesday they ran a big "analysis" claiming companies tied to Don Jr. and Eric Trump scored more than $6 billion in government contracts. In less than a day the story was gone, with no editor's note, no correction and no explanation. Alexa Henning says the reporter counted the size of a company's entire funding round as if it were money from Don Jr.'s 1789 Capital, and that several of these companies were getting contracts under Biden too. If that's true, the whole premise falls apart. This is the same network that had to pay President Trump $15 million to settle his defamation suit. They publish first, check later, and pray you never notice the delete button. We noticed.
