Assuming you were interested in an honest discussion I might ask you how you explain passages like this with regards to your belief that we are not God’s offspring. As it is, I do not have high hopes Romans 8:16-17 (KJV) 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Other translations teach the same doctrine- NIV for example - “The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father. The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Acts 17:28-2(KJV) 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device. In 1820 a young Joseph Smith prayed to the Father for wisdom and in answer to that prayer both the Father and the Son appeared to him, the Son on the Father’s right hand. At that time the Father answered the prayer and introduced the Son, saying, “Joseph, this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him.” the Son then spoke to Joseph and gave him answer and instruction. This is a literal and corporeal illustration of it works, at least to our way of understanding. And before you go objecting to the reality of Joseph Smith as a prophet remember- you asked us a question about why we pray the way we do and we have given you our answer. If your intentions are good, you will accept our answer without further argument

As @The_Old_Taylor has answered, we pray as Jesus instructed us to, which is to pray unto the Father in the name of Jesus Christ. He taught this most notably in John 14:13, 15:16, and 16:23. It there are other verses too. For example John 14:6- I am the way, the truth and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me.(rain g through me). This means we can only be sanctified through Him and cleansed to be able to come unto or live with the father in the next life but also describes the role Jesus Christ plays as one in whose name we come unto the Father in prayer. This teaching is remarkable consistent across many bible translations: John 16:23 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. (ESV) “Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you.” ( NIV) “Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name…I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.” This teaching that the “Father himself” loves us and we are bound to Him through our love for His Son.
