I see a lot of people being like “I would survive the Coronavirus. I’m taking my chances.” The way I see it, yeah. I’d survive it. But I might carry it to someone who wouldn’t. And that, folks, is the problem.
I think most people aren’t aware of the risk of systemic healthcare failure due to #COVID19 because they simply haven’t run the numbers yet. Let’s talk math. 1/n
Traditional interviews are broken. Most people can fake it through a normal interview. I knew a CEO who would take candidates to breakfast. He’d get there early and tell the server to mess up their order to see how they’d react. Interview in a way that brings out true colors.
Leaders who can identify, hire, and cultivate employees who are humble, hungry, and smart will have a serious advantage over those who cannot.
Leadership is about practicing values not simply espousing them. Today, I watched with deepest admiration as Duke Raleigh CEO David Zaas, MD took a homeless man from the street in front of his hospital, guided him to the emergency room, to find him a shelter. That’s leadership!
The process of building a sustainable culture today requires more than simply talking about it! Every leader I know talks about it...only a handful of the very best engage in the process! Below are a few keys I love to teach on in my work w/ leaders on cultural development.👇
Regardless of what degree they have the only thing that really matters is, are they hungry, humble and smart? “It’s a system corrupted by ego, narcissism, and self-worship, paradoxically alienating brighter and better clinicians by relegating them to professional purgatory”.
