being a public defender is all about being asked if you are trying to become a “criminal defense attorney someday” or a “real attorney someday”
@itscorrena And taking that opportunity to teach your clients why they are better off being represented by you, a “real lawyer”, for free than they would be by private counsel they retained.
@itscorrena I worked for a criminal defense attorney before I've seen people pled guilty to stuff they didn't do and the government violate all kinds of laws I love what your doing
@itscorrena consider helping veterans such as myself as we fight the government and the Veterans Administration for our healthcare and the corrupt VA Claims process for money we should get a lot us our poor and depend on that disability money to survive I've been fighting the VA for 7 years
@itscorrena Presumably there are other qualities and experiences?
@itscorrena I started out with a private firm, which often put me in a room with our maybe client, and him saying, "I don't no PD, I wanna real lawyer!" and me pretending to be one. PD's were better than I but I couldn't tell them - the supply of accuseds with funds was always iffy.
@itscorrena nearly 20 years and I’m still tryin…
@itscorrena The work you do supports one of the most important core principles of our nation: every American has the right to legal representation, regardless of the ability to pay. I could not admire you more. Thank you for supporting our democracy and our citizenry.
@itscorrena As if preserving our basic civil liberties of those that need it the most isn't a noble cause
