Once again, the colony boxes at the gable end of the house have residents!
Looks like rain, Ted.
We still get nightly visits from the foxes. No sign of cubs yet but it was St. Patricks weekend when Mrs. Fox disappeared for a while so I feel if they're going to visit for the first time, hopefully it will be any night now.
Frosty start in East Galway this morning as the dogs check for any food left behind by the foxes. There'll be no planting out for a few weeks yet; last frost date is mid-May...
Getting along just grand!
There's a lot of speedwell starting to show up in the front 'lawn'. Really nice, tiny little flowers.
The little one is growing in confidence and learning to give back as good as he gets!
Last week it was pear blossoms, this week it's the apples.
There's a stream 100m from the house. There's trout in it, like the small one in this photo. They used to get much bigger but water quality in Ireland isn't what it used to be. The amount of filamentous green algae present in April tells me there's too many nutrients getting in.
The sunshine over the past couple of days has started to open up the camassia bulbs. They attract in a good range of butterfly and bumblebee. Raining very lightly now!
'Kickers' Dandelion seed heads. Kick them to disperse the seeds far and wide!
Great weather for pollinators like this small tortoiseshell that stopped by for a feed on this aubrietia.

A lot of the time I think ADHD is a buildup of energy that sometimes will manifest itself in negative ways due to impulsivity. This has been an amazing way to expel pent up energy for our boy (8). When he starts gritting teeth and acting like a coiled spring, this helps calm him!
The perfect Spring lawn, in my opinion. Ankle to shin-deep grass and full of daisies, dandelions and other pit-stops for pollinators.
The alocasia (Giant Taro/elephant ear) in the kitchen is flowering and it's something I have never seen before.

@irish_organic Oh it SO needed to be done, I'd be miserable looking out at a grden which was plastic/concrete/chipped/slabbed, the wildlife in my garden is my joy
@irish_organic I have mine in a flower bed and yes I use them a lot with food. I don’t mind them spreading really as they give a nice bit of colour. New spuds, butter and chives 🥰🥰
@irish_organic Yip, hoverflies,wasps,moths and more ALL love them. I have lots of different varieties in my front and back garden
@irish_organic Yes and gosh don’t they spread! I love them anyway. My alliums have dwindled in numbers over the years but they are nearly ready. 😊
@irish_organic Same here, chives getting ready to flower, my ornamental alliums all in bud, I LOVE my alliums mostly because the bees love them 🐝🐝🐝🐝
Chives are a great addition to the garden, balcony and your diet!
The chives are just starting to flower. The ornamental alliums won't be far behind them.

@irish_organic So they are, in fact, chives. Must have been mislabelled. Kind of glad they were, because they're stunning.

@irish_organic Though having just looked at a picture of tree onions, these might in fact be chives... I bought them in a pot with a label that said tree onion, but now I'm unsure!

@irish_organic I have a tree onion that flowers almost identically. Need to check on my one little patch of chives to see if that's going too...

@irish_organic do you use the blooms too? I saw a recipe for them pickled in vinegar.
@irish_organic We have sparrows nesting at one end of the roof and starlings in the other. Bird boxes remain empty 🙄
@irish_organic They’ve already made a home in a big Buxus that’s in a pot ( it must be like a mansion😂 )
