@Kyambogo_FSNR @NUDIPU @UNEB_UG @incpart @pearls_oysters @UNATU_ORG @Educ_SportsUg Today, I met a group of teachers with visual impairments who are advocating for the opportunity to upgrade to a diploma, despite having scored F9 in Mathematics at Senior 4. Interestingly, many of these teachers were previously admitted to PTC programs with the same grade, successfully graduated, and are now serving in schools. One teacher shared that for learners who are blind in Uganda, failing Mathematics is often considered "normal" and treated as an affirmative action issue. Yet, under the same challenging conditions, some learners with visual impairments still earn credits in Mathematics. As a person with a visual impairment, I believe this approach is misguided. We do not want exemptions from Mathematics. We want meaningful support: accessible learning materials, trained teachers, inclusive assessment standards, assistive technology, and policies that enable us to participate fully. With the right support, learners with visual impairments can excel in Mathematics and other STEAM subjects. Many countries have already demonstrated this. Uganda should invest in removing barriers, not lowering expectations. #DisabilityInclusion #InclusiveEducation #Accessibility #STEAMEducation #VisualImpairment #UgandaEducation
