For those not in IV right now, @CaltransD5 is advising against traveling during the storm. But if you need to travel by car, plan ahead and visit quickmap.dot.gov for current road/highway conditions.

We have a climate crisis for many reasons. A big one is that decades of exclusionary planning policy has forced students and working people to live further and further away from their schools/jobs, and forced them into cars – the actual source of most pollution.

A Christmas Eve surprise from Court of Appeal in UC Berkeley "students are pollution" CEQA case. tl,dr: UC Berkeley & state housing + antidiscrimination policy got a lump of coal in their stockings. CEQA is about to get much, much worse unless the Leg or the AG steps in. 1/25

.@CaliforniaLabor has called on elected officials not to hold events, speaking engagements, or meetings on UC campuses until fair contracts are settled. I will be honoring this request and will continue joining the picket line in solidarity with academic workers.

Isla Vista is home to hundreds of academic workers. As a former UCSB student and head of Isla Vista local government, I recognize that the work that TA’s, researchers, postdocs, and academic workers do is vital to higher education – and our entire community.

Students & families created the IVCSD in 2016 to create power for our community to solve issues on our own terms. I’m excited to continue working with my colleagues and partners to do that, and to take on big challenges – like transportation, justice, and housing affordability.
