🇯🇵 JAPAN PASSES BILL RECLASSIFYING CRYPTO AS A FINANCIAL INSTRUMENT 20% TAX RATE PLANNED FOR 2028

JUST IN: Japan officially recognizes crypto as "financial assets"

Wednesday Snapshot One liquidity event: Korea. Not a crypto story. A liquidity story. Korean equities dropped hard. Leverage broke. Margin calls followed. Foreign capital already exiting while domestic investors absorbed the selling with borrowed money. That is the event. The first. Now Korea is building the legal container for what comes next: Digital assets inside the national asset-management framework. Tokenized state-owned real estate. Regulated security-token issuance and trading through licensed intermediaries. Their government is not declaring “crypto a national asset” although loose crypto influencers will say that. That headline is loose. The truth: they are preparing to recognize virtual assets as a legitimate asset class inside state balance-sheet and asset-management law. Very different statement. Much bigger structurally. Liquidity broke first. Then the architecture appeared. JAPAN Japan is opening the product shelf while crypto is moving toward treatment under securities law. That creates a path toward regulated ETFs and a tax structure closer to stocks — seemingly beginning in 2027. The Japan Lower House advanced the legislation; implementation and the precise tax timetable still depend on the remaining legislative process. They know they’re on the clock. At the same time: Circle and JCB signed an MOU to explore stablecoin-enabled cross-border treasury, payment and merchant use cases. Not $USDC live at 40 million merchants. Not free $SOL settlement across Japan. An infrastructure agreement to test where SC’s can enter one of Japan’s largest existing payment networks. Still significant. Just not finished. Japan is building distribution. Korea is rebuilding liquidity. Across the Pond: United States DTCC expanded the operating clock through NSCC 24×5 clearing. Then it moved tokenized securities into live production activity - although it’s LIMITED. Longer hours. Tokenized assets. Regulated custody. Central clearing. T+1. As stated. The old market is not being discarded. It is being renovated in real time so assets can move across jurisdictions, time zones and digital environments without leaving the institutional control structure. XRPL? DTCC: tokenized capital markets enter production while operating hours expand. XRPL: permissioned trading, vaults and lending infrastructure get hardened. Evernorth: management names Japan and South Korea as its first international focus. That does not prove a coordinated XRP rollout or price increase. That depends on supply and demand. It does, however, show the same problem being attacked from different sides: Assets must be tokenized. Liquidity must be available. Collateral must remain controlled. Markets must operate beyond domestic hours. And value must cross borders without every institution prefunding every corridor. Stop watching individual announcements. Ask yourself —How / where is this sequencing? Who is downstream? What would be required for that to occur? The useful signal is the sequence. Liquidity breaks.
Law changes.
Products arrive.
Rails go live.

NEW: South Korea plans to update a 76-year-old law to classify cryptocurrencies as national assets. The government also plans to test tokenized government bonds in 2027 and explore tokenizing state-owned real estate.
