@NASAAdmin is going to need all of us who care about the movement of humanity into space to support him as the same crowd that took away our last lunar ventures will be howling their usual hate and negativity. We need to be steady in our support which should be couched in practical terms. For the president, the moon should always be presented as real estate to be developed. For Congress, it should be presented as jobs and technological development that will create more jobs. My hope is that our lunar outpost will be ultimately much like our outposts in Antarctica. We will build it and open it to countries and companies with the proviso they pay to utilize our facilities. I see it as an anchor from which others venture into the lunar plains and mountains. In effect, like St. Louis was for the early American pioneers.

I’ve arrived: A book I cowrote was 1 of millions ingested by Anthropic to train AI. One lawsuit later, Anthropic has to pay $1.5 billion. I’m not eligible for compensation so I’ll just bask in the “honor” of knowing that my work was required reading for a robot called Claude.

In 1975, Monogram Models announced the release of their 1/48 scale B-17 Flying Fortress. For years, building this kit has been a rite of passage for model builders. Anyone who has built the legendary Monogram B-17 is familiar with the Sheperd Paine diorama featured on the pamphlet included in the box. Thanks to the efforts of former Monogram employee Edward Sexton, several of the original Sheperd Paine dioramas now call the EAA Aviation Museum home. They are now displayed on the second story of the Eagle Hangar.

When I start writing a story for @EAA, I tell myself 2 lies: I way underestimate the word count to make it seem less daunting, & I write the ending first which tricks my brain into thinking the story is done & I just need to flesh out the middle a little bit. Silly, but it works.

I am not sure how I earned the trust of so many, but I will do everything I can to live up to those expectations. To the innovators building the orbital economy, to the scientists pursuing breakthrough discoveries and to dreamers across the world eager for a return to the Moon and the grand journey beyond--these are the most exciting times since the dawn of the space age-- and I truly believe the future we have all been waiting for will soon become reality. And to the best and brightest at NASA, and to all the commercial and international partners, we have an extraordinary responsibility--but the clock is running. The journey is never easy, but it is time to inspire the world once again to achieve the near-impossible--to undertake and accomplish big, bold endeavors in space...and when we do, we will make life better here at home and challenge the next generation to go even further.
