A day later, the many tributes to Bob Cole leave me with one thought. In this business, you can be the best and there are always some who think you’re the worst. I never, but never heard anyone say “I don’t like listening to Bob Cole”.
Detroit set the all-time record for largest attendance for round one of the NFL draft. Detroit got the chance to have the world's eyes on them and this is how they showed up. 🤍

When you consider that some 400,000 people are converging on Detroit for three days to watch middle-aged men talk on the phone then say a person's name, to loud cheers and boos, you have to marvel at what the NFL has created.

@Johnubacon Even more amazing was they had multiple ads for the schedule reveal program next month. Probably drawn out over an hour. At least the draft it's fun watching players and their families be happy.
A day later, the many tributes to Bob Cole leave me with one thought. In this business, you can be the best and there are always some who think you’re the worst. I never, but never heard anyone say “I don’t like listening to Bob Cole”.
@Johnubacon I will also add, this is as much about the Lions as it is the NFL in general. Maybe even a tie between coming down there to celebrate what the city of Detroit has accomplished and what the Lions have accomplished. 90% of everyone down there was in Lions gear.
@Johnubacon I’m sure it’s largely the NFL that brought people in, but as a MI die hard, I was there for the college players.
@Johnubacon To me the NFL draft has turned intk the NFL fan convention. NFL fans from all over the country attend these drafts to be around one another and have a good time.
@BigJohn0089 @Johnubacon I saw a video of fans from various teams mingling and sharing fist bumps and high fives to each other. It was fun to watch!
@Johnubacon Ya, had the conversation tonight. I liken going to the draft to going to spring games (it’s *practice* for goodness sake, and I’m an ex player). But there is no denying that the NFL has turned it into a huge event, so kudos to their marketing.

Indeed, but honestly give me a 10am start on a week day with Beano in the balcony with @nyjets fans. 🤷♂️🤦♂️yeah I’m showing my age.
When you consider that some 400,000 people are converging on Detroit for three days to watch middle-aged men talk on the phone then say a person's name, to loud cheers and boos, you have to marvel at what the NFL has created.
